ESTATE ARGYROS was included among the list of ‘Top 100 Wineries of 2019’ by Wine & Spirits magazine. Each year, the magazine creates this list based on wineries who have the most consistent performance and highest scores throughout the year. Their panel and critics blind taste more than 11,000 wines and present only the most distinctive selections to their readers. A prominent profile on the winery is featured in the magazine’s 33rd annual buying guide.
These wines were chosen by their team of editors out of the 11,500 wines that were tasted in 2019. These wines “cut through the noise of the brash, blunt, heady and aggressive, sending our panelists into silent reverie or into extended conversations about classicism, energy and memories of other wines from a particular place.”
“Yiannis Argyros was the king of Vinsanto before his death in 2012; he carried on a tradition that predates that of Tuscany’s sweet wines. His son, Matthew, now continues the tradition, seeing the wines through long barrel aging to take on their characteristic complexity. Although this is one of the estate’s younger wines, it’s spectacular. A blend of assyrtiko with aidani and athiri, late-harvested and sun-dried on a pumice plateau, this aged in oak barrels for four years. It stuns with its power, the acidity and sugar delivering honeyed flavors with spine-tingling intensity. It tastes of butter toffee and orange zest, vanilla and lemon, with herbal notes that accent its briskness and clarity. Masterful.”
